Howdy Freelancers! If you haven’t already heard, next week we get a repeat week in the Cataclysm because of some issues with update 1.40.

Unfortunately BioWare introduced some issues to Anthem with update 1.40, and the community has made them well known to the people who matter. As a result, BioWare is making a bunch of fixes to the game, but they require a patch that we all need to download. As a result, they want to extended week 5 of the Cataclysm by another week as a sorry for messing things up a little bit.

The issues that BioWare is intending to fix with the upcoming patch are as follows.

  • Certain damage formulas for weapons and gear are not functioning as they were intended to
  • Some support items are outright not functioning as intended
  • Jarra’s Wrath is the most overpowered weapon in the game, and needs a nerf

Interestingly BioWare has added that they are keen to let us all know that they aren’t going to stealth nerf anything. A stealth nerf would be lowering the damage of Jarra’s Wrath and telling no one. This sort of behaviour is seen as shady by game communities, and the community of Freelancers would be no different if a stealth nerf was uncovered.

Anyway, as a result of these issues, a patch is going to be required. This means that the issues, or at least one of them, has something to do with data stored in our local files, on consoles or PC. If the issue were on the server side, BioWare could just push the patch live, taking the servers down for an hour or two, and then let us get on with things.

Due to the patch the Cataclysm is being extended by a week, and just to confirm exactly what that means, it’s being extended until the 17th of September. This means that all current Inversions, and the items in the Seasonal Store, will remain the same until the 17th of September, at which point week 6 of the Cataclysm will take full effect.

Week 6 of the Cataclysm will be the last week. The Cataclysm was always slated as an 8 week event, with 2 weeks of pre-event content, and 6 weeks of Cataclysm content. As we near the end, tell me what you think of the Cataclysm in the comments.
