The Mass Effect Trilogy has been around for a little while now. But recently we’ve been seeing a lot of news about the game bundle coming to modern consoles. so what exactly is going on with the games in 2020?

When I say modern console, I do mean PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. So far I’ve seen no rumours about the games coming to next-gen consoles, as in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X or S, but you never know.

What is the Mass Effect Trilogy?

The bundle is a collection of Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, all in one bundle. It originally released for PC and Xbox 360 in November 2012. It then came to PlayStation 3 one month or so later.

This package is the real deal. You get all three games from the series, and most of their DLC. there were some issues with Mass Effect 3, but that’s a story for another article.

Is the Mass Effect Trilogy Coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch?

The recent rumours in 2020 are that the games are being remastered and released for modern consoles. These rumours surfaces as leaks from various retailers, and most actually listed the games for all three platforms.

However, there has now been some pretty damning news. VentureBeat, who have been reporting on this the most, says that originally EA was going to announce the Mass Effect Trilogy Legendary Edition for consoles this month. That’s now been delayed though, since the games aren’t going to be ready in time.

Apparently this is all down to Mass Effect 1, which doesn’t exactly play well. It’s the oldest game in the collection, so it stands to reason that it would need the most work in order to get to a playable level on modern machines.

Mass Effect on Nintendo Switch

Unfortunately every report I’ve read seems to suggest that the Mass Effect series isn’t coming to Nintendo Switch. This is awful news, because the console has the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on it.

I think that this must have something to do with the level of work EA is willing to justify on the remasters. Obviously that work would be massively increased if Bioware is going to bring the games to Switch.

For now, it seems like this isn’t happening. If that changes though, I’ll be sure to let you know.
